Final blog number 14

I am not real sure what this blog is supposed to cover, so I will discuss my final paper and what I have read about the others finals. I think that the final paper was kind of fun to write. It gave me a good refresher of everything that we have learned and how I need to apply it to my life. I think that it is neat that one of the girls is writing a song for her final. I hope that she posts it somewhere that we can listen to it. How cool, I wish that I was talented. I was a little disappointed to read that another student didn't enjoy the class and was just ready to be done with it. How could you not have learned anything? Maybe I have just been through so much over the last several months that I have learned to appreciate things more.

blog 13

The article that we read, Fear of Feminism, was a real eye opener to me. It made me realize why women don't want to have a part in feminism. It has nothing to do with standing up for being a women. It has everything to do with politics. Many women are afraid to step out and speak out. They are afraid of what others might say and afraid of the backlash. They are afraid that it might be a turn off to men. But, in the end if they don't take a stand, then they are only hurting themselves and future generations of women. I think that the author of this article wanted to try to challenge us to make a difference by stating that in order to be a feminist, you must be bold, smart, courageous, sensitive, complex, you must know who you are and where you are going, and you must have a sense of humor. Well, what women doesn't want to think that they are or could achieve all of these things? I think that this was put at the end of the article to try to provoke this kind of thinking.

chapter 12

I don't believe that I have ever been excluded from anything in my current church because I am female. However in my past church, women were not supposed to be preachers. Since this was not my calling, it didn't affect me, but I did see a lot of women that had potential not able to use it. There were several very knowledgable women that I could have learned a lot from, but they were not allowed to preach. We did have a women that taught on Wednesday nights, but she wasn't allowed hold a preaching position. I think that this is just crazy. If God has put a calling up on your life, then you must do it, regardless of sex.

Post 11

I want to discuss the question that I asked the class. I asked them what they thought of a conversation that I overheard last week. One of the men was refering to the public assistance programs when he said "just get rid of it, they will either get a job or die." I understand his frustration when talking about public assistance and those that abuse it, however there are some that have to have it. I also think that something needs to be done to change the abuse going on within the system, however I don't think that we need to just get rid of it. If we would however make people accountable for what they receive, I think that we would see less abuse going on. These people that abuse the system and just sit at home all day would probably not want the programs if they had to work for it. They should be required to go to school or do community service. I realize that the disabled can not do community service, but the able bodied people should. The people that are already working and just not making enough should also be exempt from this, if they are working at least 20 hours a week.

Chapter 10

This chapter is definitely a heavy reader. There is a lot of information that is heart wrenching. One thing that seems that it will be a big topic, is rape. Is it really considered rape when you have sex while intoxicated? Yes, you are not in your right mind to say yes, but who's fault is it that you are not in your right mind? I think that if you say "no", then it is rape. However, if you have sex with someone and then say it was rape because you were drunk and couldn't make the right choice, it should not be considered rape. You choose to be in that state of mind, then you face the consequences. If you were drinking and driving, and killed someone, they are not going to say that it wasn't your fault because you were not in the right state of mind. They are going to through you in jail and say that you shouldn't be driving after drinking. Same thing with sex, if you can't make the right choice about having sex while drunk, then don't get drunk.

Chapter 9

I think that the media has a negative affect on the way that our young girls see sexuality. In one of our readings, it talked about the fact that Girl Gone wild is for the young girls now. How sick that our society thinks that this is okay. I would have a fit if I knew that my 16 year old daughter was participating in something like this. I know that 16 year olds are curious, but what happened to "show me yours and I'll show you mine." Now it's just "I'll show everyone everything, no holding back." And it is a billion dollar industry. I know that they say everyone on Girls Gone Wild is over age, but come on, do they really check every ones ID in the middle of the girls lifting up their shirts.

chapter 8

I think that the article in our book about prostitution is crazy. Prostitution should not ever be considered legal. I have seen shows that talk about women who just do it for fun and I think that they are crazy. I think that it is wrong that people see this as a career. Our bodies are supposed to be private and sex is supposed to be shared between a husband and a wife. I think that it is sad that some people have to resort to prostitution to make rent and to feed their kids, but why would people choose it for other reasons. It is also sick that people in our society will pay such large amounts of money for sexual favors, making this a career option. Bottom line is that prostituion is degrading to women. They are only being seen as a sexual object, not for who they are.

blog 6

Do you think that a woman who has several children, all of which have been taken into state custody, who were all born drug exposed, and have long term health problems because of it, should be allowed to keep having kids? Is sterilization justifiable in this situation?

I think that this justifies sterilization. I think that if someone isn't responsible enough to care for another life inside of them, then they shouldn't be allowed to have children. My children's birth mother for example, has seven children and they were all taken away for abuse and neglect, and they were all born drug exposed. All of my children have some type of disability as a result of her drug use. One has cerebral palsy, probably caused by birth at 28 weeks because of drug use, several had ADHD, two are midly mentally handicapped, one learning disabled, one is bipolar, and one has a problem with the way his brain is wired, he doesn't make proper connection between intelligence and feelings. Why should this woman be allowed to continue to have children that she is causing life long conditions in. I love my kids, don't get me wrong, but why should she have the choice to continue to cause life altering problems in someone elses life?

Blog 5

This weeks readings were crazy! Who in the world would have cosmetic surgery down there? Anyone who would, must have more money then they know what to do with. I could understand having surgery down there if it was for medical reasons, but just for looks? They obviously don't have the religious values that I have. I believe that you save yourself for marriage, then you are only sexually active with your husband. They must believe that they show themselves to many people or they wouldn't go through so much trouble to be perfect.

Blog 4

I found it interesting that they say that men participate in virtual worlds more than women. Is this because society has made it such an awful thing for a man to show a feminine side? I think that this probably gives men a way to be femine without the risk of being found out. They can go online and act as a woman, and no one knows who they are. Society definetely makes it more acceptable for women to act like men, then for men to act like women. This is probably why it has been found that more men swap gender on the internet than women.

posting 3

So what does everyone think about cybersex? Is this just innocent fun and a way to release frustrations? I don't think so! I would be very mad if I caught my husband having cybersex on the computer. I think that this just opens up the door for the next step in cheating. Why would anyone want to get off with someone on the computer anyways. This would tell me that there are major issues that someone is not dealing with. Sex, in any form, should be between two people, face to face, in an intimate manner. I think that cybersex is cheating just the same as if someone went out and slept with another person. When you allow someone, in any form, into your intimate sexual feelings with the intent of pleasure, you are having sex.

Chapter 2

Do you think that we make a bigger deal out of inequality and oppression then what it actually is?

I was just wondering what everyone else thought about this weeks readings? I guess after reading all of this stuff, I see where people find the inequalities and oppressions, but are they as obvious as what these articles make them seem. I don't know if I just don't get out enough or since I live in a smaller town, it just isn't seen as much. Or could it be that since I am a white woman, I just don't experience it as much. I would be interested in hearing what everyone else thinks about this. I just think that the articles that we read made things seem much worse than what I believe them to be in our time.

test entry

So, what does everyone think about Sarah Palin? She is getting so much talk about her pregnant daughter. I don't agree with sex outside of marriage, but it happens. She cannot control her 17 year olds decisions. However, what in the heck is she thinking by saying that her daughter will be marrying the father. She is seventeen!!! Just because she got pregnant, don't let her make another decision that she may not be mature enough to make yet. I got married when I was 19 and I thought that I was ready, and in some sense I was, but there were a lot of things that I didn't realize also. And that was after high school and two years of college, she hasn't even come into the real world beyond high school yet. I know that Sarah Palin is trying to look good and thinks that it would be best for her daughter, or her image, to marry the man that she has commited sin with, but I think that she better make sure she knows what she is doing.
